PRIVATE HAROLD ANGLE | AGE: (97) | RESIDES: CHAMBERSBURG, PA
UNITED STATES ARMY – 28TH DIVISION, 112TH INFANTRY REGIMENT (INFANTRYMAN)
Battles: Northern France | Ardennes-Alsace | Rhineland | Central Europe Pocket
SHORT BIOGRAPHY: There are very few who acknowledge the role of a replacement soldier. HAROLD ANGLE went overseas in mid-1944, assigned to the 112th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division. On July 22, 1944, the division landed in Normandy, joining Operation Cobra as the allies pushed towards Paris through the Bocage over roads littered with abandoned tanks, bloated corpses of men and animals. A month after landing in France, the 112th Infantry entered Paris, marching down the Champs-Elysées on August 29, 1944, during the Liberation of Paris. HAROLD ANGLE considers himself very lucky to survive the war. He saved a piece of a bullet that hit his helmet and keeps it with a wartime photo of himself and a letter he wrote home to his mother, describing his scrape with death. Today, 97-year-old HAROLD ANGLE resides in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
